8 Ways to Maintain a Youthful Appearance

No matter how old you are or when your last birthday is, you can do lots of easy things to keep your skin healthy and make it look younger. Andrea Robinson, the former head of beauty for Ralph Lauren and Tom Ford and the author of Toss the Gloss: Beauty Tips, Tricks, and Truths for Women 50+, shares her insider knowledge about what anti-aging products work, what makeup tips are sure to make you look younger, and more. Here are eight things you can do to keep looking young.

Protect yourself from sun exposure

Two things happen when you go out into the sun. First, the UV rays in sunlight break down the collagen and elastin in your skin. This speeds up the aging process. Second, when this happens, your skin cells try to protect themselves from damage caused by UV light. This makes a substance called melanin, which makes you tan.

Quit smoking

Regular smoking is a direct cause of skin aging faster than it should. Cigarette tobacco contains nicotine. When you smoke, you narrow your blood vessels. This cuts down on the amount of blood that flows through your skin, so your cells get less oxygen and food. Tobacco also hurts your collagen and elastin structure directly. Smoking is a bad habit that makes your body and skin age faster than they should. It’s best to stop as soon as possible.

Get sufficient sleep

While you sleep, your body’s cells and tissues get fixed. This is also when your skin repairs damage caused by oxidation and rebuilds its supply of collagen. If you don’t get enough sleep for a long time, your body and skin will age faster because they don’t have time to repair. To avoid this, you should prioritize sleeping for 7 to 9 hours without being disturbed.

Eat a lot of protein.

Your body is mainly made up of proteins. About 80% of your skin comprises collagen, a protein. As you get older, your body loses collagen reserves on its own. The protein you get from food helps your body make more collagen. Eating a lot of protein gives your body the protein it needs to make collagen, which keeps your skin looking young and healthy as you age.

Every day, drink a lot of water.

One of the main things that make up your skin is water. When you drink enough water, your skin is soft and springy. On the other hand, skin that isn’t getting enough water will lose this glow and look dull, wrinkled, and saggy.

Eat foods with antioxidants.

Oxidative stress is caused by things like getting older, getting hurt, being in the sun, getting sick, and smoking. This gives your body free radicals, which hurt and kill your cells.

Use hyaluronic acid supplements.

Studies have shown that hyaluronic acid is good for the skin. Hyaluronic acid tablets or serums for the face are a great way to keep the skin hydrated and look healthy.

Use a complete skincare routine.

When you take care of your skin from the inside, it’s essential also to take care of its outside. An important part of your daily routine is a thorough skincare routine.
